There’s a dozen different “knocks” that can come from an engine, and as such the term “engine knock” is about as useless as “it makes a funny noise”.
Amusingly, that definition of “knock” sounds absolutely nothing like a knock. Pinging sounds more like a rattle from a loose exhaust flange bolt.
